Horse / Pony Training Fees
Training for Riding Age Equines
In house training of unstarted, green or previously saddle trained horses ages 2 and a half years or older. Sessions last between 45 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes depending on the 'lesson' of the day, the horses age, fitness, etc. Horses going off property for schooling experiences (trail riding, schooling shows etc) will use 2 sessions. We do not accept horses in for riding training for the months of January and February (unpredictable weather/no indoor arena). Training also includes photo and/or video journaling (published to a web page viewable by the owner).
What gets covered in the sessions can be discussed ahead of time, depending on the owner's goals, if the horse has specific behavior or physical issues, etc. We can tailor a program that suits you and your horse be it specific discipline/sport related schooling, general education schooling or simply fitness building. In house training does no include boarding.
- 4 days per week (or 16 sessions per month), pre-paid for the month - $ 256.00
- 3 days per week (or 12 sessions per month), pre-paid for the month - $ 216.00
- 2 days per week (of 8 sessions per month), pre-paid for the month - $ 160.00
Why is your training program set up in an ala carte way (not all 'inclusive' pricing)?
Good question! This gives the participating, local owner a chance to minimize their expenses by cleaning their own stall, bringing their own feed, or actually DOING some of the exercising of the horse!
Foal / Equine Good Citizen (non riding)
Send your foal off to boarding school! Here your filly or colt will get handled nearly daily, get used to things in a 'people world', and acquire the basic skills necessary to become an enjoyable adult horse. Youngsters will get to see a lot of general activity, hear noises, and be handled on a regular basis. Why would you want to leave your future riding horse standing idle in a field until he is 3 years old? Send him to school!
Got an older or injured horse that needs some daily exercise/handling with out having the work out of lunging or riding? This may suit your needs as well!
Youngsters may be stall kept as part of their experience/education but will typically be kept outside in a pasture/paddock with a shelter and in the company of other similar aged youngsters (exception of stud colts of mature breeding age). There is a minimum stay of 2 months for the Foal Equine Good CItizen program. Adult horses have a choice of boarding packages. Sessions that include actual hauling will be counted as 2 sessions for that week. This program also includes the photo/video journaling that is viewable via your foal's/horse's web page.
Ages 18 months (1 1/2 years) up (no riding) , *$150.00 per month.
A continuing refresher course in tying, being handled for grooming / farrier / vet, basic leading, loading/hauling, and good manners around the farm, and desensitizing. These youngsters will be given an introduction to basic (gentle) lunging to understand the restraining effects of the halter, the driving effects of the whip and general voice commands. Youngsters will be introduced to being tacked up, leg wraps, and depending on the time of year being hosed off or wearing a blanket/sheet.
Colts/Fillies will also be taken 'off property'. Trailer 'conditioning' and training will include feeding them in the trailer (positive association) and hauling out to local parks for 'field trips ( trail-walked -up and down hills, in the woods). This program will start exposing the youngster to life in a 'people world' and will start getting the young horse fit and develop bone and muscle for work to come in the next year. Disciplined and more detailed ground work including backing up, turn on the forehand, turns on the haunches, and obstacle work to increase dexterity and agility. Also skills/discipline to be shown in-hand.
These youngsters will have school 3-4 days a week for 30-45 minutes a day (aprox 9-10 hours per month). Foals/horses should be at least basic halter trained. This program includes fee's for hauling out and fee's to get into local horse parks.
Ages 6 months (post weaning) to 18 months (1 1/2 years), *$125.00 per month
No demanding work or forced exercise for the weanlings and yearlings, mostly mental exposure and some light general daily handling. These colts and fillies will be introduced to the skills needed to be handled on a daily basis, and to prepare them for their eventual careers as 'people horses'. Being caught, leading, tying, loading, age related desensitizing / obstacle course work, grooming, learning to be mannerly for the vet/farrier. The goal of this program is to get a young foal to experience a horse/human relationship, and that our interactions do not have to be negative, but that there are rules to be followed and things to be experienced. Of course the older group will be exposed to more than the younger group - however everything is done on the farm. The youngsters will have school 4-5 days a week for 30-40 minutes a day (aprox 10-12 hours per month). Youngsters should be at least basic halter trained.
*does not include boarding/food, foals must have proof of vaccination, all horses/foals must be 'tame' and at least controlable under good circumstances |
